2022 Honda Civic makes ASEAN debut in Thailand

The 2022 Honda Civic is inching closer to being launched in the Philippines. One of Honda’s most-awaited models has just made its ASEAN debut, launching in Thailand earlier this evening.

Revealed earlier this year in the United States, the 11th generation Honda Civic has been confirmed to arrive in the Philippines before the end of 2021. The model’s launch in Thailand, source of local Honda Civic units is a sign that we may see it locally soon.

On the outside, the 2022 Honda Civic features a more sophisticated look, similar to that of the larger Accord. It gets simpler styling compared to the outgoing model. Standard exterior equipment on the base variant are halogen projector headlights with LED daytime running lights, LED taillights, LED fog lights, dual exhaust pipes, and 16-inch alloy wheels. The mid-variant adds power-folding side mirrors. Moving up to the top-spec RS gives the Civic LED headlights, 17-inch blacked-out alloy wheels, blacked-out door handles and side mirror caps, and a rear spoiler.

Inside, the 2022 Honda Civic follows Honda’s new interior design language dubbed “Simplicity and Something.” Standard interior features on the base variant are fabric seats, automatic climate control, push button start, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 4-speaker audio system, and a 7-inch driver instrument cluster. Moving up to the mid-variant adds leather seats, power-adjustment for the driver’s seat, leather-wrapped steering wheel, two USB ports, and an 8-speaker audio system. Going for the top-spec RS variant will give you a leather and suede material combination for the seats, power-adjustable front passenger seat, auto-dimming rear-view mirror, dual-zone climate control, a 10.2-inch fully-digital driver instrument cluster, 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless charger, and interior mood lighting.

Under the hood, the 2022 Honda Civic for the Thai market is powered by the same 1.5L Inline-4 Cylinder Earth Dreams VTEC Turbo. It still produces 176 horsepower and 240 Nm of torque and is exclusively paired to an Earth Dreams Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). It also features three driving modes, ECON, Normal, and for the RS, Sport. There is no word yet if the 1.8L naturally-aspirated engine will be made available for overseas markets like ours as a base engine.

In terms of safety, the 2022 Honda Civic now gets Honda Sensing as standard on all variants. This is a suite of driver-assist features which are Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), Road Departure Mitigation with Lane Departure Warning (RDM w/ LDW), Adaptive Cruise Control with Low Speed Follow (ACC w/ LSF), Lane-Keep Assist System (LKAS), Automatic High-Beams (AHB), and Lead Car Departure Notification (LCDN). Other standard safety features include Six Airbags, LaneWatch Camera, and a Driver Attention Monitor.

With that, we expect the local-spec Civic to have similar features and specifications. The local launch of the new model has already been confirmed to be before the end of 2021 by none other than Honda Cars Philippines President Masahiko Nakamura. The last few months of the year will surely be exciting for Honda in the Philippines.
