2022 Nissan Terra makes ASEAN debut in Thailand
While we already know that the updated 2022 Nissan Terra is already in the Philippines, albeit still unlaunched, it’s still getting closed. The updated model has been launched in the region with Thailand, where we source local units from, getting first dibs.
A local launch is definitely coming very soon as Nissan Philippines has already announced through teasers its upcoming local availability. For now, seeing the Thai-spec model reveals what we will most likely see locally.
Many already probably know that the 2022 Nissan Terra is essentially the X-Terra which was launched in Middle Eastern markets late last year. On the outside, it gets a more premium design, taking inspiration from Nissan’s largest SUV, the Patrol. There are new quad LED headlights and LED daytime running lights, new LED taillights, a new V-Motion grille, and new 18-inch alloy wheels.
The 2022 Terra is also much more premium on the inside compared to the outgoing model and this is also confirmed for the local market based on Nissan Philippines’ teasers. The dashboard is now more modern in appearance and different from the Navara, plus it gets red soft-touch materials. The Zero Gravity seats on the other hand are wrapped in black leather and feature a new diamond pattern. Also new is a 7-inch display in the instrument cluster just like on the Navara, and a new 9-inch NissanConnect touchscreen infotainment system. There’s even a 8-speaker Bose audio system, also confirmed to be available on the Philippine-spec model.
Under the hood, the Thai-spec 2022 Nissan Terra is powered by a 2.3L YS23DDTT twin-turbo diesel that produces 187 horsepower and 450 Nm of torque. This is unlikely to power the local Terra though once it’s launched. We’re still most likely to get the same 2.5L YD25DDTi turbo diesel that makes the same output figures considering that the updated 2021 Navara which was launched earlier this year also keeps that engine option.
As expected, the Terra can be had with Nissan Intelligent Mobility. This suite of driver-assist features includes an intelligent around-view monitor (360° camera) with moving object detection, intelligent forward collision warning, blind spot warning, and intelligent emergency braking, among others.
Now there is still no complete information as to what the Philippine-spec 2022 Nissan Terra’s specifications and features will be. The launch in Thailand does signify that we will be seeing it very soon, and the fact that units have already been spotted locally. The Thai-spec also shows us pretty much what to expect locally, in addition to Nissan Philippines’ online teasers.
