Refreshed 2023 Honda City revealed in India with Honda SENSING
After various leaks found their way to the internet, Honda has finally revealed for the Indian market the updated version of the current generation City subcompact sedan, which we also expect to see in other markets soon. For 2023, the refreshed Honda City gets a handful of minor cosmetic changes both on the exterior and interior, and added safety.
Looking at its exterior, the 2023 Honda City still looks pretty much similar to the pre-refresh model. New for this update are its front and rear bumpers which get a more aggressive design. The front grille is also new with a honeycomb pattern on the top-spec variant, and horizontal slats on lower variants. It also gets new alloy wheel designs with sizes still at 15 or 16-inches while the base variant makes do with steel wheels with hubcaps.
Inside, changes are minor as well. The biggest update is a new partially digital instrument cluster which is shared with other Honda models like the Accord, Civic, and HR-V. This features an analog speedometer to the right, and a 7-inch display screen to the left. Other features remain the same such as its 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, rear aircon vents and charging ports, and automatic climate control.
Under the hood, the refreshed Honda City in India continues to be offered with two powertrain options. The first is the 1.5-liter L15 Inline 4-cylinder i-VTEC gasoline engine that we also get here in the Philippines. Output remains the same at 121 horsepower and 145 Nm of torque, paired to either a 6-speed manual transmission or an Earth Dreams CVT.
The second option is also a 1.5-liter i-VTEC gasoline engine but this time with Honda’s e:HEV hybrid technology. The gasoline-powered engine combined with its electric motor produce a total of 126 horsepower and 253 Nm of torque, paired to an e-CVT.
Safety is also improved on the 2023 Honda City as it now comes available with Honda’s SENSING suite of advanced driver-assistance tech. This is composed of Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS), Road Departure Mitigation System with Lane Departure Warning (RDM with LDW), Auto High-Beam (AHB), and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Low Speed Follow (LSF).
With the 2023 Honda City now available in India, it shouldn’t be too long before we see it reach other markets soon. The next is highly likely to be the Thai market as the Bangkok International Motor Show is happening this month. The Philippines could then follow soon after.
