This is what the 2023 Toyota Wigo will look like
After the recent unveiling of the 2023 Perodua Axia which serves as the base of the Toyota Wigo, many were excited to see what the second generation of Toyota’s popular small hatchback will look like. We no longer need to wait as Toyota Indonesia has officially unveiled it today.
Now riding on the Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA) platform which also underpins the Toyota Avanza, Raize, Veloz, and upcoming new Vios, the 2023 Toyota Wigo, or Agya as it is known in Indonesia, gets a sportier exterior and an improved interior, as well as some changes to its powertrain.
In terms of looks, the 2023 Toyota Agya is a complete departure from the outgoing version. It gets its own unique and new front fascia which is more aggressive and features a larger grille, and vertical daytime running lights. The rest of the vehicle is identical to the Perodua Axia. Its interior on the other hand is unsurprisingly reminiscent of that in the Raize, Avanza, and Veloz, featuring similar design elements.
An even sportier and more aggressive GR Sport (GR-S) version is also now available, replacing the TRD-S that we’ve had for a couple years now. This one gets a sportier front bumper; blacked-out roof, pillars and side mirrors; and two-tone alloy wheels.
Under the hood, the 2023 Toyota Agya is still powered by the same 1.0-liter KR-VE Inline 3-cylinder VVT-i gasoline engine that produces 66 horsepower and 89 Nm of torque. Gone however is the 4-speed automatic transmission which is replaced by a new Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT).
Safety is also upgraded with the 2023 Toyota Agya as it is now available with some Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) driver-assistance technology. These are Pre-Collision Assist, Lane Departure Warning, and Blind Spot Monitoring.
The outgoing generation Toyota Wigo has been available in the Philippines since 2014. We don’t know how long it will take for Toyota Motor Philippines to introduce the new generation Wigo here but we think that it will definitely happen before the year ends.
