Current-gen Toyota Vios facelift officially revealed

Despite the very popular Toyota Vios subcompact sedan already getting a new generation, in the form of the Toyota Yaris Ativ, the current generation lives-on with a new refresh, revealed today for the Vietnamese market.

Yes, one of our neighbors gets the new Vios, but not the all-new one that our other neighbors, Thailand and Malaysia, get. This one comes with a handful of changes to keep it fresh despite there being a newer model already present.

This facelift, the third for this generation since it was first unveiled in 2013, gives the Vios the updated Yaris hatchback’s styling with its more aggressive front bumper, larger front grille, and restyled headlights. It also gets new alloy wheels, and new rear bumper as well, rounding up the exterior changes.

For its interior, it’s still basically the same with the infotainment system receiving the most changes. The new one gets a floating tablet-style 9-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Safety is also improved with the top-of-the-line variant getting Toyota Safety Sense (TSS), giving the updated Vios pre-collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, and lane departure warning.

Under the hood, this updated Toyota Vios still gets the familiar 1.5-liter naturally-aspirated 2NR-FE Inline 4-cylinder gasoline engine with dual VVT-i paired to either a 5-speed manual transmission or CVT. It produces 107 horsepower and 140 Nm of torque.

There is no news yet as to whether Toyota Motor Philippines will also be introducing this refreshed third-generation Vios in our market while they retool their local manufacturing plant for the next generation which is also in the rumors. If ever they do decide to bring this here, it will likely be within the next few months.
