8 Reasons why the Chevrolet Spark is a perfect city car
When you start planning what car to buy, especially if it’s a small hatchback, the first ones that come to mind are the Toyota Wigo, Suzuki Swift, and the Honda Brio. Now those are all good cars, but why limit your choices to them when you there’s one that might be capable of beating them all. From the American bow-tie brand and the land of K-Pop, here’s 8 Reasons why the Chevrolet Spark is a perfect city car.
Exterior Looks
The first reason why the Chevrolet Spark is a perfect car for the city is the looks. The overall design composed of the projector-type halogen headlights, LED daytime running lights and the large front grille all come together to make quite an elegant and aggressive front fascia.
Wide Range of Color Choices
Having a small city-car is made way more perfect when you get a good color. This Chevy not only gives you a large range of color choices, they even get funky individual names. There’s Pull Me Over Red, Burning Hot Metallic (Orange), Carribean Blue, Merry Berry Me, Black Meet Kettle, Son of a Gun Gray, Switchblade Silver, and Summit White.
Classy Interior Design
Small city-cars typically have simple interiors with simple materials. The Chevy Spark is very different. Once you open the door, you are greeted by a very classy looking interior. The application of piano black plastics here is plentiful. Not everyone likes that but in this case, we think they look really good. Fit-and-finish and material quality are also excellent.
Chevy’s MyLink Infotainment System
This is one of the main aspects where the Chevy Spark shines. While the 7-inch touchscreen display is typical with radio, bluetooth, and USB functionalities, this one gets Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard across the range. Having these phone screen mirroring apps is very helpful for when you need to answer a call or text message or use your mobile navigation maps. We’re not aware of any other subcompact hatchback that’s comes with these apps, except the Mazda2.
In addition, the screen is also great to use with almost excellent feedback. Having the volume knob is also a great plus point.
Technology
Usually absent from other subcompact hatchbacks, the Spark gets steering wheel audio controls, speed-sensing door locks, automatic up and down driver’s side window, and heated power folding side mirrors. These are all standard. There’s also a USB-C port which we haven’t seen in any other car we’ve tested.
The Engine
At number six we have the engine. With a displacement of 1.4 liters and a maximum output of 98 horsepower and 120 Newton-meters of torque, paired to a continuously variable transmission, the Spark gets both the largest engine and the highest performance numbers in the segment. Honestly we haven’t driven it, but those numbers definitely sound promising.
Features
For its price, the Chevy Spark is leading the segment with its safety features. It is fully-loaded with dual front airbags, anti-lock braking system, traction control, electronic stability control, ISOFIX child seat anchor points, hill-start assist, and engine immobilizer. You also get 3-point seatbelts for all passengers, and seatbelt reminders for the driver and front passenger.
Great value for money
With an SRP of Php 734,888 for the top-spec 1.4L Premier CVT variant, it’s right in the middle of the subcompact hatchback class but packed with tech and safety features that put it above the rest. You also get great looks that can let the car itself pass as one with a price around the 1-million peso mark.
