Kia PH confirms EV9 launch at PIMS 2024

Kia Philippines is set to solidify its footing in the local EV lineup. After introducing the EV6 last year, the Korean automaker is now bringing in the EV9.

This bit of news was confirmed by Kia Philippines Chief Operating Officer Brian Buendia at a recent press conference for the upcoming 2024 Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS) which is happening this coming October 24 to 27, 2024.

The second of the brand’s lineup of fully-electric vehicles, the EV9 was revealed at the 2023 Seoul Mobility Show as the brand’s three-row midsize EV crossover. It is built on the Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) which it shares with the EV6, as well as the Hyundai IONIQ 5 and 6, among others.

Fun fact, measuring at 5,015mm long, 1,980mm wide, and 1,780mm tall, the Kia EV9 is actually larger than a Toyota Fortuner and Ford Everest.

From what we saw in Seoul last year, the EV9 is inspired by Kia’s Opposites United design philosophy with its futuristic design elements in its Digital Tiger Face which features vertical headlights with “Star Map” LED daytime running lights, and Digital Lighting Pattern Grille (GT-Line).

Inside, it goes for a simple design with the use of mostly horizontal lines and smooth surfaces. Features include a Panoramic wide display housing the driver’s digital instrument cluster and infotainment screen, and touch-sensitive controls.

Powering the Kia EV9 is a range of fully-electric powertrains. We’re betting that we’ll get the RWD Long Range option which combines a 99.8 kWh lithium-ion battery with an electric motor that produces 204 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque. This allows the EV9 to drive 541 kilometers on a single charge.

Aside from its confirmed PIMS appearance, Kia Philippines has not mentioned any other information about the local-spec EV9. We did hear of some unconfirmed rumors that it will come in a single variant. Considering what we have with the EV6, that will likely be the GT-Line which gets sportier bumpers and wheels, a roof rack, blacked-out accents, and the aforementioned Digital Lighting Pattern Grille.

Well whatever we get, we don’t have to wait too long as the Kia EV9 will make its presence felt in just two months from now.
