The Nissan Leaf is the 2026 Supreme Winner of the Women’s Worldwide Car of the Year

The Women’s Worldwide Car of the Year (WWCOTY) has announced its overall winner for 2026, and it’s the Nissan Leaf which gains the highest honor from the all-women automotive journalist international jury.

In our voting, we have focused on vehicles that stand out not only for their figures or technology, but for how effectively they respond to people’s real, everyday needs,” said WWCOTY Executive President Marta García. “The Nissan LEAF represents a mature and intelligent vision of electrification–one that makes electric mobility truly usable and accessible.”

This is not the first time the fully electric crossover was recognized by the WWCOTY, also being named as the Best Compact Car earlier this year. For its recognition as Supreme Winner, it beat other finalist vehicle models such as the Škoda Elroq, Mercedes-Benz CLA, Hyundai Ioniq 9, Toyota 4Runner, and Lamborghini Temerario.

The Women’s Worldwide Car of the Year was founded in 2009 by New Zealand journalist Sandy Myhre. It’s currently composed of 86 women automotive journalists from more than 50 countries, and aims to amplify women’s voices in the automotive industry and highlight mobility for women as a key enabler of personal and professional opportunities worldwide. It is also the only automotive award judged exclusively by women motoring journalists who represent voices across five continents.

New Leaf being named overall winner by the Women’s Worldwide Car of the Year is a proud moment for everyone at Nissan,” said Nissan President and CEO Ivan Espinosa. “Leaf helped bring electric driving into the mainstream, and this new generation carries that mission forward. It’s designed to make going electric easier and more enjoyable for more people around the world.”
