A Toyota GR test mule has been spotted at Fuji Speedway, is it the new Celica or MR2?

In today’s day and age of AI generated imagery and videos, it’s very easy to dismiss a lot of car leaks that you come across online. However, two photos snapped at the Fuji Speedway by user @You_SuiKoyoAZ on X (or Twitter) made some waves on the Internet as it showed what appears to be a cobbled-together test mule.

While we have seen many AI-generated takes on what the future Toyota GR Celica would look like, this isn’t the first time that we’ve seen leaks of a new GR car being tested, as a covered-up rally test mule was spotted earlier this year being tested in the rally stages of Portugal.

And what’s more interesting is that the same user uploaded a video of the same test mule rounding the final corner of the Fuji Speedway, complete with a very raspy engine note that pauses to indicate a manual transmission—that’s a common trait shared between Toyota’s GR Yaris and Corolla cars.

This test mule features a coupe-like silhouette but with a handful of GR Yaris parts on it, such as the front bumper, and headlights and taillights. It has a very short front end, and massive rear vents presumably to cool the rear engine found in the middle.

This could very well be Toyota’s new 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine in the G20E, and it’s designed a new high-output and compact engine that’s capable of producing at least 400 horsepower or more, depending on the state of tune.
