The Monjaro is the high-end Geely SUV we want in PH

It’s no longer unknown that Geely is gaining popularity and a strong following in the Philippines thanks to its model’s affordability and more comprehensive feature-list compared to their rivals.

Geely models are also known for being a bit more premium or upmarket feeling compared to other models. But what if Geely Philippines were to bring something even more premium? That’s where the Geely Monjaro comes in.

The Geely Monjaro is the brand’s new flagship crossover SUV, unveiled last year in China as the Xingyue L. Built on the brand’s Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) platform, which is co-developed with Volvo, the Monjaro is said to be the brand’s most technologically-advanced SUV to date.

So why do we want to see this launched in the Philippines? Well first, the exterior. The Geely Monjaro is undoubtedly upmarket on the outside, wearing the brand’s latest design language first seen on the Preface sedan. It certainly looks good with its LED headlights, new Expanding Cosmos front grille, large alloy wheels, and full-width LED taillights.

Inside, the Monjaro gets a design that matches well with the exterior, yes, premium and upmarket. The center of attraction here are the four different dashboard screens composed of a fully-digital driver’s display, two infotainment screens, and a 26.5-inch AR-HUD. In addition, there’s a 10-speaker high-performance BOSE sound system which is combined with engine harmonic noise reduction technology and double layered soundproofing.

That’s not all as the Monjaro comes with Geely’s newest 5G-enabled, completely unmanned automated valet system. Within a 200-meter area such as a parking lot, the Manjaro can drive independently, search for parking spots and park itself. It can also do the opposite by calling the Monjaro to pick up the user. The vehicle is able to achieve this feat through the integration of 12 ultrasonic radars, 5 millimeter wave radars, 4 HD surround view cameras, 1 monocular camera, 1 dashcam, and 1 interior camera.

The advanced sensor suite also allows the Monjaro to be the first Geely model to offer HWA Highway Assisted Driving which actively monitors the vehicle’s surroundings, autonomously change lanes, and move safe distances away from large vehicles. Drivers can also direct the vehicle to autonomously change lanes through signaling.

Under the hood, the Geely Monjaro is powered by a 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder turbocharged direct injection engine from Volvo. It has two different versions with the first producing 218 horsepower and 325 Nm of torque, paired to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, and another producing a higher 238 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque, this time paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission.

Another option could be a new 1.5-liter inline 3-cylinder hybrid engine. This one produces 245 horsepower and 540 Nm of torque. If ever the Manjaro would be launched here, we think this would make the best option as it would make the model more affordable thanks to tax breaks for models with the engine displacement size.
