Next-gen Honda HR-V launching next month with turbo option, Honda SENSING

Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI) is starting its 2022 model lineup revamp with the upcoming launch of the all-new third generation HR-V subcompact crossover SUV, the brand’s first new model to make it locally this year.

Introduced locally in 2015, the currently available and outgoing second generation Honda HR-V is the oldest model in HCPI’s current lineup. For the third generation, it gets new engines, more equipment, and more safety.

Like before, the all-new Honda HR-V will be available with two variants. The first is the 1.5 S while the second is the 1.5 V. There is no mention yet if a range-topping RS variant will be available but that will probably follow soon after.

Looking at the exterior, the all-new Honda HR-V gets a revolutionary redesign when compared to the outgoing model. The overall look is sleeker and sportier with its slim headlights and wraparound taillights, larger front grille, and swept-back tailgate.

Inside, the all-new HR-V is also a huge departure from the outgoing model with more modern and premium touches. The dashboard design is more human-centric, featuring Honda’s ‘man maximum-machine minimum’ principle. Convenience features include an infotainment system that’s ready to serve in-car entertainment needs such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a new automatic air conditioning with air diffusion.

Under the hood, unlike the previous generation’s single engine option, the all-new Honda HR-V now gets choices of a naturally-aspirated 1.5-liter i-VTEC engine on the S, and a 1.5-liter VTEC turbo on the V. No information for output figures were mentioned by HCPI in its announcement but it’s safe to assume that the former option will produce 119 hp and 145 Nm of torque like the Honda City, while the latter will produce 175 hp and 240 Nm of torque like on the Civic. Both engines are paired to an Earth Dreams CVT.

As with the Civic which was HCPI’s last new model introduction before this, the all-new HR-V will be available with Honda SENSING, the company’s suite of driver-assistance tech. This means the 2023 Honda HR-V will get Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Low-Speed Follow (LSF), Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS), Road Departure Mitigation System with Lane Departure Warning (RDM with LDW), Auto High-Beam (AHB), and Lead Car Departure Notification System (LCDN) all as standard.

No exact pricing has been announced but HCPI said that it will range in between Php 1,300,000 and Php 1,600,000 which is around the same for its main rivals like the Toyota Corolla Cross and Kia Seltos. It will also be available in four different colors which are Ignite Red Metallic, Platinum White Pearl, Premium Opal White Silver (new), and Meteoroid Gray Pearl.

Honda Cars Philippines is set to fully unveil the all-new HR-V this April 19, 2022 at 2:00 PM on their official Facebook page. For those interested in the all-new HR-V, dealerships will start taking reservations on April 1, 2022.
