Shanghai 2023: Chery shows-off new flagship Tiggo 9, will it come to PH?
The popularity of crossovers, not only in the Philippines but in the rest of the world as well, does not seem like it will slow down anytime soon. That is also what seems to be the case in Chery’s home market in China as they introduce their new flagship crossover.
Say hello to the Chery Tiggo 9 which we saw revealed as the brand’s new flagship model under its Tiggo line of crossovers, live at the 2023 Auto Shanghai (Shanghai Auto Show).
Looking at its exterior, the Tiggo 9 is very much fit for a flagship with its strong presence, emphasized by its large grille fitted with vertical slats, illuminated front Chery badge, and full LED exterior lighting. The side features a single body line that encompasses its side profile. The rear on the other hand features wraparound taillights with the Chery name embedded and spelled-out into it.
Being the brand’s new flagship, the interior is definitely the place to be with its very premium interior appointments such as the two-tone cream and light brown color scheme, faux wood trim, and soft-touch surface. The Tiggo 9 also features a dual 12.3-inch screen setup for the instrument cluster and infotainment system, both housed in a curved display. By the way, the it will be available with 5- and 7-seater configurations.
Under the hood of the Chery Tiggo 9 is a 2.0-liter Inline 4-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine that produces 261 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque, paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission that sends power to all four wheels. Chery also says that this powertrain is capable of speeds of as much as 205 kph. Chery will also be offering a plug-in hybrid version of the Tiggo 9 in the future.
Now this is certainly a very interesting model and we would love to see Chery Auto Philippines introduce it in our market. As to whether they have plans, we do not know yet at this point. What do you think, should they bring it to the Philippines?
