Audi’s Concept C hints at a new sports car, a new R8 or TT?

Just today, Audi announced a sleek new concept car that hints at the future of its design language. Concept C is the introduction of the brand’s new design philosophy of radical simplicity, and it offers a lot of callbacks to the brand’s history.

The simple shape that turns into a convertible via an electronically retractable hard top is very reminiscent of multiple Audi cars from its history, calling back the likes of the first-generation TT, the RSQ concept from 2004, and even the R8. This car’s color is in titanium as well, inspired by the elegance and luster of the metal.

The rest is a throwback to older Audi cars, such as the Rosemeyer concept from 2000, or the Auto Union race cars from the 1930s. You can tell that by elements like the vertical Singleframe grille, the slit-like headlight and taillights, the simple 21-inch alloy wheels, and the rear louvers that hide the rear-facing camera and third brake light.

The interior is a radical departure from current screen-laden Audi cabins. A very clean, simple layout that utilizes actual physical controls made of aluminum, and a digital driver’s display with a split info and speedometer layout, plus a retractable 10.4-inch display that tucks away within the dashboard, just like previous Audis that featured this, to give the driver a cleaner view when the screen is not needed.

Being a concept car, Audi hasn’t mentioned any details regarding powertrains, but we won’t be surprised if it will be shared with any of the new Volkswagen Group products, whether an electric drivetrain or an internal combustion engine.

But we do know that this is a turning point for Audi, as they want to focus on getting back on track and establishing an identity that focuses on emotion.
