BMW PH introduces 2 Series Gran Coupé
The local distributor of BMW vehicles in the country, SMC Asia Cars Distributors Corporation, has just launched the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé. It is now BMW’s smallest and most affordable offering in the country.
The 2 Series Gran Coupé is a four-door coupé that is set to compete with the Mercedes-Benz CLA. The 2 Series name is also shared with an MPV, and 2-door coupe and convertible.
On the outside, it is a mix of the BMW 1 Series, that it’s based on, and the 8-Series. The front fascia will be very familiar to those who know the 1-Series well. The large kidney grille, LED headlights and daytime running lights, and front bumper are all similar. At the back, we see similar-shaped LED taillights from the 8-Series. Finishing off the exterior is a set of 17-inch alloy wheels.
Inside, the 2 Series continues to give 1-Series feels. A leather-wrapped three-spoke steering wheel, power-adjustable front sport seats, LED interior ambient lighting, and Sensatec leather upholstery are standard giving both a luxurious and sporty ambiance. Also standard are the latest version of iDrive 7 with an 8.8-inch screen, and BMW Live Cockpit Plus which is a digital instrument cluster.
Other standard features include automated parking assist for both parallel and perpendicular parking, front and rear parking sensors, a reverse camera, and optional Comfort Access which allows automatic opening of the tailgate with a quick wave of your foot underneath the rear bumper.
As there is only one variant available for now, there is also only one powertrain option for the 2 Series Gran Coupé. Under the hood, it is powered by a 1.5-liter three-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine. It produces 140 hp and 220 Nm of torque, paired to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. Power is sent to the front wheels.
Pricing for the 2020 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé is set at Php 2,990,000 for the lone 218i variant. As with every new BMW vehicle, it is covered by a 5-year 200,000 km warranty.
