BYD Sealion 5 DM-i is coming to PH, what are we getting?

BYD Cars Philippines just really isn’t running out of new models to bring to our market. They already have everything from compact to midsize sedans, a small hatchback, multiple crossovers, a compact MPV, and even a pickup truck. Now it’s time for them to expand further.

This is according to documents from the Land Transportation Office (LTO) which show that the Chinese automaker will be launching the Sealion 5 DM-i which is another compact crossover that will sit below the very popular Sealion 6 DM-i.

Based on the said documents, the Sealion 5 DM-i will come in two variants just like other BYD models: Dynamic and Premium.

Interestingly, this crossover is said to measure at 4,738mm long, 1,860mm wide, and 1,710mm tall which matches the BYD Song Pro which is the Sealion 05’s (yes, 05) slightly larger sibling in China, Latin America, and Mexico. This means we’ll be getting a different and slightly larger Sealion 5 instead of the newer Sealion 05 DM-i.

If we’re right, that means both variants will be powered by a 1.5-liter inline four-cylinder gasoline engine that produces 106 horsepower and 130 Nm of torque. This then provides power and acts as an onboard charger for the electric motor which makes 197 horsepower and 300 Nm

With a 12.9kWh BYD Blade Battery, all-electric range is estimated at 71km. A full tank of fuel and a full charge will return up to 1001km of range, and the battery can be replenished in 45 minutes through CCS2 DC charging, or 11 hours through Type 2 AC charging.

Other significant details include a 2,712mm wheelbase, 195mm ground clearance, and 18-inch wheels which will be wrapped in 235/50 tires. Features we can expect based on other markets include leather upholstery, multi-reflector LED headlights, a 12.8-inch rotating touchscreen, and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster.

Of course, this is just speculation until BYD Cars Philippines comes out with an official announcement. Given that some information is already out, we probably won’t have to wait too long to learn more about this upcoming model.
