BYD Shark 6 gets a five-star ANCAP safety rating

We’re just a week shy of the much-awaited Philippine launch of the BYD Shark 6 and we have some good news from down under for those interested in this plug-in hybrid electric pickup truck.
The first of its kind to undergo testing by the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP), it has just received a perfect five-star safety rating based on the following categories:
- Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) – 85% or 34.37 of 40 points
- Child Occupant Protection (COP) – 87% or 43 of 49 points
- Vulnerable Road User Protection (VRUP) – 74% or 47.14 of 63 points
- Safety Assist (SA) – 86% or 15.59 of 18 points

As you can see, the BYD Shark 6 performed well in all categories. However, due its size, weight and front-end design, the ANCAP noted that it poses a higher risk to occupants of oncoming vehicles. This resulted in an 8.00 point penalty being applied in the Mobile Progressive Deformable Barrier (MPDB) test.

“With five of BYD’s current local models having now earned top ANCAP safety ratings, it’s evident that new manufacturers are prioritising safety as they enter the market to align with consumer demands,” said ANCAP CEO Carla Hoorweg.
Well, there you have it, the BYD Shark 6 will be a very safe pickup truck for those who are looking to get one once it’s launched.
