Chery Auto PH Increases Prices Due to DTI Safeguard Measures

Addressing consumer concerns about higher prices resulting from the safeguard duties on imported automobiles, Chery Auto Philippines has announced the new prices for its line of Tiggo crossovers and SUVs.

“In compliance with the Department of Trade and Industry’s Department Administrative Order (DAO) imposing a provisional safeguard tariff on certain imported passenger cars and light commercial vehicles, Chery Auto Philippines will be adjusting its prices accordingly,” announced Rommel Sytin, Chery Auto Philippines President.

The DTI ordered the imposition of a provisional safeguard measure on cars and LCVs after it found higher vehicle imports are causing serious injury to the domestic motor vehicle manufacturing industry in its evaluation of the petition filed by the Philippine Metalworkers’ Alliance.

Under the Safeguard Measures Act, the government can impose safeguard measures in the form of tariffs to provide relief to the local industry when there is serious threat or injury from increased imports of like products.

As specified by the new ruling, a safeguard tariff amounting to P78,400 (P70,000 + VAT) will be collected from each Tiggo passenger car model.
