Chery Auto PH to introduce mild-hybrid Tiggo 5X Pro and Tiggo 7 Pro

Chery Auto Philippines, under United Asia Automotive Group, Inc. (UAAGI), is pushing further with the electrification of its lineup. After the successful launch of its flagship Tiggo 8 Pro plug-in hybrid electric vehicle in last year’s edition of the Manila International Auto Show (MIAS), they brought-in the mild-hybrid versions of its popular Tiggo 7 Pro compact crossover, and Tiggo 5X subcompact crossover, in this year’s recently concluded MIAS.

Marketed as “hybrid” vehicles, the arrival of these two new variants for the brand’s most popular models come at a right time when many car buyers are looking for more fuel efficient vehicles.

Both the Chery Tiggo 5X Pro Hybrid and Tiggo 7 Pro Hybrid are powered by a 1.5-liter Inline 4-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine, paired with a 48V electric motor. This allows the engine to produce slightly more power and torque, as well as reduce emissions by 14%, and reduce fuel consumption by 13%. This powertrain combination produces 160 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque.

We are thrilled to showcase these state-of-the-art Tiggo models that underscore Chery’s world-class technology, especially in the area of electrified mobility,” says Chery Auto Philippines and UAAGI President Mr. Erroll P. Dueñas.

The models that we will unveil are anchored on our Q-Power Global Platform, which is the culmination of Chery’s 25-year power technology development, spanning all future mainstream power forms including hybrid, pure electric, and hydrogen. We use state-of-the-art 48V hybrid technology on two of our latest models bringing further reduction in fuel consumption and emissions in their daily drives,” he added.

When will they come to PH?

That’s the big question, when does Chery Auto Philippines plan to introduce these two new variants which could definitely help boost sales further? We asked the people from Chery Auto Philippines during our recent trip with them to Wuhu, China, the hometown of Chery International. According to them, it will be in a few months.

It is also good to note that the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro Hybrid shown at MIAS 2023 was an early pre-production model. We were able to see for ourselves what is highly likely to be the version to be launched locally during our trip which you can see below.

Differences include a new front grille and bumper, a sportier rear spoiler, and the Chery name spelled-out across the tailgate above its full width LED lightbar. The interior is also different taking a similar design as the larger Tiggo 8 Pro AWD and PHEV which are both already available locally.

Hopefully we won’t have to wait too long for these electrified crossovers to reach the Philippine market especially with the growing popularity of these types of vehicles whether mild-hybrid, full hybrid, or fully electric.
