Chery Tiggo 5X gets an update for 2021

Chery Auto’s subcompact crossover gets a makeover.

The Chery Tiggo 5X was launched in the country when the brand was reintroduced here last year. It’s also noticeably their most popular vehicle in the Philippines based on which of their models we see more often. In China, it gets an update for the 2021 model year.

The updated model gets some updates on the outside, new technology, and an interior upgrade which should keep the model fresh and competitive.

Starting in front, the Tiggo 5X gets a new and larger front grille which adopts what Chery calls the dot-matrix galaxy grille design from the second generation Tiggo 7. The projector-type halogen headlights have been upgraded to LED. The bumper is also new with new housings for the LED daytime running lights. The rear on the other hand received some minor changes. Definitely noticeable is the lack of the Chery logo which has been replaced with the brand’s name spelled-out.  The rest of it appear to be unchanged.

Inside is where Chery really made great effort. The Tiggo 5X gets a completely revamped interior. It isn’t exactly a new design as it is already used in the larger 2nd-gen Tiggo 7 and the even larger Tiggo 8. As with those two larger models, the updated Tiggo 5X gets a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Baidu CarLife, as well as touch sensitive digital climate control adjustments. The digital instrument cluster also appears to have been updated as well. The leather-wrapped steering wheel appears to be the same but gets a new flat bottom. Lastly, the seats appear to have been taken as well from the Tiggo 7 and 8.

As for safety, the Tiggo 5X now gets a 360-degree around-view monitor integrated to the infotainment system and automatic brake hold. Other features such as cruise control and a power sunroof are standard.

No updates were given to the powertrain. It still has the same 1.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine that produces 114 hp and 141 Nm of torque, paired to a continuously variable transmission or a five-speed manual.

There is no news yet from Chery Auto Philippines as to when the updated 2021 Chery Tiggo 5X will be launched in the country. Considering it just came out last year, we should probably wait a year or two. Maybe by then they can also launch the second generation Chery Tiggo 7.
