Details about 2022 Ford Ranger, Everest surface online

Ford is reportedly planning to equip the Ranger and Everest with hybrid powertrains.

While the Ford Ranger continuously gets upgrades and new variants in our market such as the FX4 launched this year and the very popular Raptor, Ford is already planning the next generation of their global mid-size pick-up truck. The current generation (known as the T6) was launched about 9 years ago, in 2011 to be exact.

A report from CarExpert Australia cites information that they were able to obtain about the next generation Ranger and Everest which should be revealed by 2021 or 2022. According to the report, the next generation of the truck and SUV will get a plug-in hybrid powertrain which cannot be found yet in any other Ford product today.

Engines

Based on the report, Ford will reportedly discontinue the option of a 3.2-liter turbodiesel engine. This powertrain was already discontinued in the Philippine-market and was replaced by the 2.0-liter Bi-turbo diesel powertrain.

The new base engine choice will be the current top-spec 2.0-liter four cylinder Bi-turbo diesel engine with 210 hp and 500 Nm of torque, paired to a 10-speed automatic transmission.

To be added to the powertrain options is a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 diesel engine with 250 hp and 600 Nm of torque, also paired to a 10-speed automatic transmission. The said powertrain is currently used in the US-market Ford F-150.

The last but not the least, and newest engine option will be a 2.3-liter four cylinder turbocharged Ecoboost gasoline engine paired to a plug-in hybrid system. Expected output is at 362 hp and 680 Nm of torque which are pretty good numbers. Like the first two, it will also be paired to a 10-speed automatic transmission. It should have a fuel economy of 3 liters in every 100 km or around 33 kilometers per liter.

The Ranger Raptor should have the 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 diesel engine. It is also likely to get a new set of Fox Racing shock absorbers which were recently introduced to the 2020 Ford F-150 Raptor.

Technology

Aside from the new plug-in hybrid powertrain, Ford is expected to upgrade the infotainment system on both the Ranger and Everest. They are expected to get the company’s SYNC4 infotainment system which can be controlled through a 12.8-inch vertical touchscreen. The instrument cluster will be a 10.25-inch display showing important information such as speed and trip computer.

A similar infotainment is found in the Ford Mustang Mach-E electric vehicle. The system features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity which is already available on current Rangers and Everests.

When will it be launched?

Ford is marketing both the new Ranger and Everest as 2022 models. This means that the two models could be officially revealed by next year or early 2022 with it being available globally by the end of 2022. As to what we’ll be getting in the Philippines, we’ll have a better idea once information about Thai models come out as we source our Ranger and Everest there, however both models are almost the same in all markets.
