Face Off: Honda Civic 1.5 RS Turbo vs. Volkswagen Lamando 280 TSI SEL

Two compact sedans, both sporty but one lowkey.

The compact sedan market is and has always been one of the most popular segments in the Philippines. Vehicles in the segment were top sellers until the subcompact sedans came in.

The Honda Civic 1.5 RS Turbo is one of the most well-known nameplates in the industry. The Civic has always been one of Honda’s important models. It embraced quite a big change in 2016 when it first came out with a new turbo engine, and looks to make up for where the previous generation failed greatly.

We’ll be comparing it with the newcomer of the segment, the Volkswagen Lamando 280 TSI SEL. The Lamando is part of the brand’s completely revamped Philippine-lineup which was revealed in 2018. Compared to the Civic, the Lamando gets more conservative looks which should win the hearts of many compact sedan buyers.

Both are not too different in terms of pricing. The Honda Civic 1.5 RS Turbo goes for Php 1,608,000 while the Volkswagen Lamando 280 TSI SEL goes for Php 1,703,000, a difference of Php 95,000 in favor of the Civic. Both are in their top spec variants.

We compiled the different specifications of the two models below. Based on them, which do you think is the better choice among the two?
