The subcompact crossover segment is one of the fastest growing not only in the Philippine automotive market but around the world. Different car companies are launching new models left and right and the largest and most popular car brand in the country is no exception. Even one of the latest brands to enter the local market is part of this trend.
Just a few days ago Toyota Motor Philippines introduced the all-new Toyota Corolla Cross with two variants, the 1.8 G with a naturally aspirated gasoline engine, and the 1.8 V with a hybrid powertrain. The model finally puts the country’s largest car company in the segment, filling a gap below the Toyota RAV4 compact crossover that could have been for the Toyota C-HR if it was launched here. Geely on the other hand is gaining some momentum with their Coolray. That model has quickly become the 2nd top-selling subcompact crossover in the market in June of this year. So for this spec comparison we’ll be pitting the Toyota Corolla Cross 1.8 G against the Geely Coolray 1.5 Sport.
You may be wondering why we’re comparing the base 1.8 G variant of the all-new Toyota Corolla Cross with the top-spec 1.5 Sport variant of the Geely Coolray. Well it comes down to pricing. Considering that they are both subcompact crossovers, the Toyota Corolla Cross in its base 1.8 G form is priced higher than the top-spec Geely Coolray 1.5 Sport. The Corolla Cross 1.8 G is priced at Php 1,285,000 while the Coolray 1.5 Sport is priced at a more slightly affordable Php 1,198,000. That’s a difference of just Php 87,000.
We’ve compiled the different specifications of the two models below. Based on them, which do you think is the better choice among the two?
