GAC Motor PH confirms Emkoo launch at MIAS 2023
Over a month ago, we reported that GAC Motor Philippines, now under the distributorship of Astara Philippines, might be introducing an all-new model at the 2023 Manila International Auto Show (MIAS) which will be happening this week.
Now we have confirmation as the company announced in a press release the introduction of its latest crossover model in the Philippines, the GAC Emkoo, which will indeed make an appearance at the motor show.
What exactly can we expect from the GAC Emkoo? First in terms of looks, the Emkoo gets a very futuristic and striking front fascia with plenty of diagonal elements. It is a huge departure from the design characteristics of other GAC models available locally such as the recently launched Empow sedan and GS8 SUV.
The side features hidden door handles and sharp creases, while the rear also features plenty of pointed design elements with an overall look that we think is similar to the 1st generation Volvo XC60.
As for the interior, it’s also very modern with its large screens, metal tube-like housing for the air vents which is inspired by ancient Chinese scrolls, and its electric blue interior ambient lighting.
Under the hood of the GAC Emkoo we can expect a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine as with most Chinese crossovers. It may also eventually come with a hybrid powertrain that is co-developed with Toyota. Whichever option comes, we’re hoping that they’re priced competitively.
And with that, we really don’t have much information regarding the said introduction of the GAC Emkoo in the Philippine market. It’ll only be a few days of waiting left though as the MIAS is happening this coming April 13 to 16, 2023 at the World Trade Center Metro Manila in Pasay City.
