Geely EX5 officially launched in PH, pricing starts at Php 1.799M

Earlier this year, Geely Motor Philippines previewed its offerings for our market with their newly revamped management. One of them was EX5 fully electric compact crossover which has officially been launched.

The Geely EX5 is developed in collaboration with Daimler Benz, and is the Chinese automaker’s first-ever fully electric offering in our market. It’s available in two variants: Pro and Max, with a starting price of Php 1,799,000.

Size-wise, the EX5 measures at 4,615mm long, 1,670mm tall, and 1,901mm wide with a wheelbase of 2,750mm, meaning it competes against the likes of the Toyota Corolla Cross HEV and, more importantly, the BYD Atto 3.

On the outside, the Geely EX5 follows a smooth and curvy design language. It has a low drag coefficient of just 0.269, which should help in maximizing driving range. The brand’s new “shield” logo is also front and center marking a new chapter for the company.

The interior is equally as futuristic as the exterior with its minimalist design. Few hard buttons are present, with most controls handled through a large 15.4-inch central touchscreen.

Standard features on both Pro and Max variants are LED exterior lighting, active grille shutters, 18-inch alloy wheels, roof rails, leather seats, and a 10.2-inch digital cluster

The Max adds a laundry list of features, including Intelligent High Beam Control, a panoramic sunroof, a power tailgate, a 16-speaker Flyme Sound premium audio system, a 13.8-inch heads-up display, front seat memory and massage functions, 256-color ambient lighting, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, and vanity mirror lights. 19-inch aero wheels can also be added as an option.

The Max also gets a suite of advanced driver-assist systems, the first for a Geely locally. That includes adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking (front and rear), lane keep assist, and blind spot detection, among others.

As for its powertrain, thanks to the Global Intelligent New Energy architecture, tech such as a cell-to-body battery structure and an incredibly compact 11-in-1 electric motor package is integrated into the EX5.

The motor itself is good for 218 horsepower and 320Nm of torque, with an estimated 0-100kph sprint time of 6.9 seconds. Its 60.22kWh LFP battery allows for a range of up to 425km and can be charged from 30-80% in as fast as 20 minutes through DC charging (6.1 hours for AC charging, 10-100%).

With Geely now joining the electrification bandwagon in the Philippines with a proper full EV, do you think the EX5 will help them in regaining the popularity they once had?
