The latest in Philippine motoring.

The Geely GX3 Pro is an affordable Toyota Raize fighter from China

The Toyota Raize has been very popular ever since it was launched in the Philippines. More competition is healthy, right? And that’s what Geely has in the form of the GX3 Pro.

The Geely GX3 Pro is a subcompact crossover that was first introduced back in 2017, with a facelift in 2021. In terms of size, it would go against the likes of the Chery Tiggo 2 Pro, Toyota Raize as mentioned, and Kia Stonic.

Looking at its exterior, the GX3 Pro already wears the corporate Geely face with its signature front grille with vertical slats. The car itself is a bit larger than the Toyota Raize, measuring at 4,005 mm long, 1,760 mm wide, and 1,560 mm tall. The interior on the other hand follows a similar design with the Emgrand B-segment sedan, looking visibly more premium than its potential competition.

Powering the Geely GX3 Pro is a 1.5-liter naturally-aspirated 4G15 gasoline engine that produces 109 horsepower and 140 Nm of torque, paired to either a 5-speed manual transmission or continuously variable transmission (CVT).

Coming to PH?

It has been more than a year since Geely Philippines, under the distributorship of Sojitz G Auto Philippines, Inc. (SGAP), launched a new model nameplate in the country. Well that may change soon as a well-placed source from within the Geely Philippines dealer network has told us that the GX3 Pro may be their next new model.

Now nothing is final and confirmed yet so we must take this bit of news with a grain of salt. Anyway, our source tells us that the GX3 Pro may become the centerpiece of the Geely Philippines display booth at the upcoming 2023 Manila International Auto Show (MIAS) which is happening this April 13 to 16, but still may change due to delays in shipping.

And while we still have no idea as to what specifications and price it will have if it arrives here, it is safe to say that it will definitely be more affordable than the Toyota Raize thanks to lower import taxes for vehicles from China, and lower production cost. We’re guessing somewhere below Php 900,000.

Now all we have to do is wait and see if it arrives here. This rumored arrival will surely help boost further Geely Philippines’ already commendable sales numbers.
