Geely PH officially launches Azkarra with Mild-Hybrid Tech
After some public previews in March, Geely’s local distributor, Sojitz G Auto Philippines (SGAP) finally launched the Geely Azkarra compact crossover SUV. It is the second Geely model to be launched in the country after its relaunch in 2019 with the Coolray subcompact. It comes in two variants, the Premium 4×2 and Luxury 4WD. The latter will come with a mild-hybrid powertrain.
The exterior of the Azkarra shows looks mostly shared with the rest of the Geely family though with more premium looks. The front fascia features the company’s signature Expanding Cosmos grille together with a set of LED headlights with daytime running lights. On the side it gets a set of 18-inch two-tone alloy wheels. The rear gets a pair of LED taillights and a tailgate spoiler.
Inside, just like the exterior the Azkarra gets a visibly more premium interior. Some features include a large 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with mirrorlink, 8-speaker audio system, wireless charging, 7-inch fully digital instrument cluster, and a 360-degree around-view monitor. The Premium variant gets PVC synthetic leather seats while the Luxury gets Nappa leather.
There are two powertrain options for the Azkarra. The Premium variant is powered by the same engine found in the Geely Coolray. It is a 1.5-liter turbocharged three cylinder that produces 177 hp and 255 Nm of torque, paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission. The Luxury variant on the other hand gets the same engine but the addition of a 48-volt Electric Motor Synergy mild-hybrid system. The combined output of the gas engine and EMS system is 190 hp and 300 Nm of torque, paired to a 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission.
The EMS mild-hybrid system in the Azkarra Luxury should provide better throttle response, reduced vehicle emissions, better fuel economy, and more power when driving.
The all-new 2020 Geely Azkarra is priced at Php 1,438,000 for the Premium variant. The Luxury variant on the other hand which is equipped with the mild-hybrid system is priced at Php 1,598,000. It should compete with the likes of the Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, and Subaru Forester just to name a few.
