Geely PH teases upcoming launch of Emgrand sedan

A few days ago we reported the spotting of a Geely Emgrand being driven on Philippine roads. Well now we can confirm that it will indeed be coming soon as Geely Philippines has just teased its upcoming launch on its official social media pages.

Geely Philippines posted a teaser which shows an outline of what’s obviously the Emgrand B-segment sedan. It will also be the brand’s first sedan offering in the Philippine market as its current lineup is completely composed of crossovers.

So what can we expect from the Geely Emgrand when it’s launched? First, it shares the same platform as the very popular Coolray crossover. It’s also about the same size as a Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla Altis, but set to compete with the likes of the Honda City and Toyota Vios.

In terms of styling, it features Geely’s latest design language, first seen on the Preface sedan and Xingyue L SUV. Inside, it features a very premium-looking interior, especially when compared with its rivals. A photo on the internet shows that we may be getting a blue interior option locally. By the way, the teaser image also shows that we may see a sunroof available, at least on the top-spec variant.

Under the hood, unlike Geely’s other local offerings, we don’t expect the Emgrand to come with a turbocharged engine. It will most likely be powered by a naturally-aspirated 1.5-liter engine that produces 113 horsepower and 147 Nm of torque, very much on par with its expected competition. This can be paired to either a continuously variable transmission or 5-speed manual transmission.

Pricing of course has not yet been announced but expect it to be very competitive at the Php 700,000 to Php 900,000 range, considering that it will benefit from the ASEAN-China Free Trade Agreement unlike most of its rivals available locally.

Despite the teaser, no exact launch date has been announced just yet. Given the timing though, we think that we won’t need to wait much longer and the launch may happen as soon as next month. Right now, we’ll just have to wait.
