Genesis Magma is Korea’s brand of luxurious performance

If you think that the Genesis luxury brand was just the Hyundai Motor Group’s premium fighter, think again. There exists a high-performance sub-branch called Magma, and it’s more than just putting on fancy kits and carbon fiber on their luxury cars.

Its first mainstream product, the GV60 Magma, focuses on the philosophy of “subtle, untapped power”, the complete opposite of Hyundai’s bold-and-brash N performance cars.

Apart from its distinct bright orange paint job, the GV60 Magma comes with more aggressive aerodynamics featuring a three-hole motif, over the standard model with subtle high-gloss canards and grilles, a lower ride height by 20mm with wider finders to accommodate the large 21-inch forged wheels, and a functional rear wing.

The interior also gets adorned with Chamude, a suede-like material with orange-and-gray contrast stitching, alongside high gloss black and dark metal trims, to not only retain the elegance of the luxury brand, but to also minimize reflective glare.

The GV60 Magma features a dual-motor powertrain with 609 horsepower and 740Nm, but Boost Mode temporarily (15 seconds) brings that up to 650 horsepower and 790Nm, and top speed is a quick 264km/h. Genesis also says that the power delivery will be consistent during extended periods of high-power driving, important for maintaining the experience.

It also handles extremely well, with three different drive modes (Sprint, GT, and MY), where the last mode allows drivers to customize the electronic limited-slip differential, the traction control, and even the electronic control suspension. It also comes with a Virtual Gear Shift System, Drift Mode, and High-Performance Battery Control, tech carried over from the likes of its Ioniq 5 N sibling.

And if you think that wasn’t enough, the brand also showed off the Magma GT Concept, a future halo car that will be the “foundation of Genesis’ next decade of performance”.

Apart from its sleek and sultry GT race-car proportions, Genesis says that this halo car is a mid-engined car, signaling the brand’s ambitions to explore GT-class racing, a perfect complement to its Genesis Magma Racing GMR-001 Hypercar that they plan to debut next year in the FIA World Endurance Championship series.

The Genesis GV60 Magma will be introduced to the Korean market at the start of 2026, followed by European and North American markets. Should Hyundai Motor Philippines look into introducing the Genesis brand and its Magma counterpart to the country?
