Great Wall Motor returns to the Philippine market
One of the largest privately-owned Chinese car companies is officially back in the Philippines. After months and months of rumors, road sightings, and whatnot, the Great Wall Motor has returned to Philippine shores under a new distributor.
The company behind the new Great Wall Motor Philippines (GWM Philippines) is Luxuriant Automotive Group, Inc. (LAGI), the same company behind the distribution of Sailun Tires in the country, among others.
The initial GWM lineup in the Philippines consists of the GWM Cannon pickup truck, and two hybrid crossover models under the Haval brand: the H6 and Jolion compact crossovers.
Like mentioned, both crossovers have hybrid powertrains under the hood. The Haval H6 is powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine paired with a dual motor hybrid system. It produces 240 hp and 530 Nm of torque. On the other hand, the Haval Jolion gets a 1.5-liter naturally-aspirated gasoline engine, also with dual electric motors, producing 186 hp and 375 Nm of torque. Both powertrains are mated to Dedicated Hybrid Transmissions (DHT).
Some features for the Haval H6 include Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) with pedestrian and cyclist detection, Lane Keep Assist (LKA), Traffic Sign Recognition and Fatigue Monitoring. On the other hand, the Jolion gets a 360-degree Around View Monitor and Adaptive Cruise Control.
Meanwhile, the Cannon pickup truck will be powered by a 2.0-liter Inline 4-cylinder turbodiesel engine that according to our research produces 161 hp and 400 Nm of torque, paired to a ZF 8-speed automatic transmission.
GWM Philippines has not yet released full specifications for the Haval crossovers and Cannon pickup truck. The brand is also expected to officially launch soon with their first dealership along UN Avenue in Paco, Manila starting operations on April 11, 2023.
