Here’s everything you need to know about the Maxus D90 in PH

September was pretty much SUV month in the Philippines with the virtual launches of the much-awaited and heavily revised version of the Nissan Terra, as well as the also much-awaited new generation of the Isuzu mu-X.

While those were met with much fanfare, Maxus Philippines did the opposite by quietly adding to its lineup its latest model, the D90. This seems quite odd considering that this should be a model Maxus Philippines would definitely need to gain spotlight but anyway, it’s done and here’s everything you need to know about the Toyota Fortuner fighter.

First, the 2022 Maxus D90 is available in two variants: Premium 4×2 and Premium 4×4. While both variants are almost 100% identical, there are a couple of small differences that are worth discussing.

On the outside, the Maxus D90 looks the part with its mix of rugged and elegant styling just like most of its competition. Standard features are automatic LED headlights with LED daytime running lights, front and rear fog lamps, LED taillights, rain sensing wipers, sunroof, side stepboards, power folding side mirrors, roof rails, and 19-inch alloy wheels. Going for the 4×4 variant adds a power tailgate.

Inside, the D90 features an interior that is similar to other Maxus models such as the D60 and G50. Standard features are leather seating, 12-way power adjustment for the driver’s seat, paddle shifters, a 12-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay connectivity, 8-speaker audio system, and dual-zone automatic climate control. Going for the 4×4 variant adds 8-way power adjustment for the front passenger’s seat, premium leather seating material, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror.

Under the hood of the Maxus D90 are choices of two different 2.0-liter inline-4 cylinder turbodiesel engines. The 4×2 variant gets a single-turbo version that produces 159 horsepower and 375 Nm of torque. The 4×4 gets a bi-turbo version that produces a class-leading 213 horsepower and 480 Nm of torque. Both powertrains versions are paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission.

In terms of safety, standard on all Maxus D90’s are six airbags, electronic stabilisation program, traction control, roll movement intervention, hill start assist, hill descent control, driver fatigue monitor, front and rear parking sensors, reverse camera, tire pressure monitoring system, and ISOFIX childseat anchor points.

For pricing, the 2022 Maxus D90 is pretty much on par with its competitors. The Premium 4×2 variant is priced at Php 1,918,000. The Premium 4×4 on the other hand is priced at Php 2,268,000.

What do you think? Does Maxus Philippines have a player worth considering in the very popular and hotly-contested mid-size pick-up based SUV segment?
