Honda Cars PH to preview new model at 2022 PIMS, could it be the BR-V?

Earlier today, Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI) announced what visitors to the 2022 Philippine International Motor Show, which is happening this coming September 15 to 18, could expect from their exhibit.

The announcement included the local introduction of the Honda HR-V RS Turbo, as well as a showcase for their safety and smartphone app technologies which are Honda Sensing and Honda Connect. What they didn’t go into detail with though is the preview of a new model, not variant but model.

No details were given at all but we do have a few guesses. Our top guess is that this could be the all-new Honda BR-V. The second generation of the popular 7-seater SUV-like MPV made its world debut in Indonesia a year ago. Based on the N7X Concept, the 2nd generation BR-V gets a complete redesign with an even more SUV-like appearance.

On the outside, the 2022 Honda BR-V gets an evolutionary redesign from the outgoing BR-V. The front end keeps similar styling cues but in a larger package. As for the rear, the taillights are similar to what you would see on the City sedan. Inside, the 2022 BR-V is a large departure from the model it replaces. Features include a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.

Under the hood, the all-new Honda BR-V retains the outgoing model’s 1.5-liter L15 i-VTEC engine but just like in the City, has been updated with DOHC. It produces best-in-class figures of 121 horsepower and 145 Nm of torque, paired to an Earth Dreams continuously variable transmission (CVT) or 6-speed manual transmission.

In terms of safety, the 2022 Honda BR-V can now be had with Honda SENSING. This means the BR-V may have stuff like forward collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, road departure mitigation, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, and lane keep assist. It also gets Honda’s LaneWatch blind spot camera. Hopefully we see these features on the local spec version.

Of course, nothing is clear with this “new model” HCPI announced. We are only assuming that it could be the all-new Honda BR-V. What we can do right now is wait for the actual event to happen. Again, the 2022 Philippine International Motor Show will happen from September 15 to 18, 2022 at the World Trade Center in Pasay City, Metro Manila.
