Honda unveils all-new Vezel, is it the next-gen HR-V?
Just a few weeks after first teasing it to the general public, Honda has officially revealed through a virtual event the second generation of its Vezel subcompact crossover, and what could be the third generation of the HR-V.
The all-new Vezel is completely redesigned inside and out and is based on the company’s concept of “Amp Up Your Life.”
The exterior is visibly a complete revolution with a new design language over the outgoing model with a more striking and sleek design. Just like the new Honda Fit, the Vezel features a body-colored front grille. Out back the license plate is now placed lower following the recent trend in crossovers while the taillights also now feature a lightbar.
Inside, the all-new Vezel gets a more premium looking interior which just like the outgoing model features several premium soft-touch surfaces. A new floating Honda CONNECT infotainment system also dominates the center of the dashboard.
Other features are a hands-free power tailgate, panoramic sunroof, electrostatic touch LED interior lamps, and a premium audio system.
Under the hood, the all-new Vezel is powered by a 1.5-liter DOHC i-VTEC gasoline engine. It is also available with Honda’s two-motor hybrid system dubbed as e:HEV. Power can be sent to both the front wheels only or all four wheels depending on the variant.
Honda’s suite of driver-assist features, Honda SENSING is also available. This includes Collision Mitigation Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control with Traffic Jam Tracking Function, Automatic High Beams, False Start Suppression, Pedestrian Accident Reduction Steering, Lane Keep Assist and Street Sign Recognition.
The all-new Honda Vezel will begin sales by April 2021. There are rumors that Honda will be releasing a separate model for the HR-V similar to how there is now a City hatchback for markets that won’t get the current generation Fit. We’ll probably find out more details in the coming months.
