How fuel efficient is the Changan Alsvin?

Fuel efficiency is one of the main factors considered by today’s car buyers, no thanks to the rising prices of fuel these days. A common question asked is “Is it fuel efficient?” or “Di ba yan magastos sa gas?”

Proving that it is the sedan designed to exceed expectations, the Alsvin, one of Changan’s powerhouse vehicle offerings in the Philippines, showcased promising fuel efficiency ratings in tests conducted by Changan Motor Philippines, Inc. (CMPI) and the Automobile Association of the Philippines (AAP).

In a fuel economy run held on July 20 and 22, 2021, the mid-variant Alsvin 1.5 DCT tallied a fuel efficiency result of approximately 22.023 km/L for highway driving at an average speed of 60 to 85 kilometers per hour. The highway driving test traversed a route from Balagtas, Bulacan going Northbound along NLEX and SCTEX to Tarlac City and back, covering a GPS-read distance of 180.652 kilometers.

The Alsvin also flaunted an above average result at 9.369 km/L during a city driving test run from EDSA-Makati to SLEX East Service Road and back with a GPS-read distance of 90.7 kilometers. The city driving test was conducted with speed appropriate to road traffic situations.

The Alsvin used in the fuel economy run was set with driving parameters for real-life driving conditions. The vehicle used for both the test runs was filled up to the brim with 95 RON gasoline. All OEM equipment were present in the Alsvin, while tire pressures were left at OEM specifications. The air conditioning was at medium cool thermostat setting, and radio was either not used or set to low volume.

The local-spec Changan Alsvin comes with either a 1.4L or 1.5L gasoline engine under the hood. These are paired to a 5-speed manual transmission or a 5-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Will this fuel economy test convince you to choose the Changan Alsvin over its rivals?
