The hybrid Toyota Land Cruiser 300 could be on its way to the PH market

Here’s some big news (literally) for those who want a large luxurious SUV, but in electrified form. The hybrid version of the Toyota Land Cruiser 300 could be coming to the Philippines soon.

Revealed in June last year for the Middle East market, the Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Hybrid has appeared on the Department of Energy’s (DOE) List of Recognized EVs, and signs point to its recognition not being applied by a gray market importer, and instead by Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) themselves.

How so? Clicking the link for its specifications leads to a portal that is under TMP’s use, and not accessible to the public. Thankfully, some basic specifications still have been published by the DOE such as its V35A-FTS engine code.

This matches what’s seen on the ME-spec Land Cruiser 300 Hybrid which gets a 3.5-liter twin-turbo gasoline V6, paired to an 40kW electric motor and 1.87kWh battery. The system produces a healthy 463 horsepower and 790Nm of torque, mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission.

This powertrain is shared with its Lexus LX700h luxury sibling which was brought into the market by Lexus Philippines in June last year.

The Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Hybrid is also set apart from the turbodiesel variants by a few design and technical details. You can read more about that here.

It’s a no-brainer for Toyota Motor Philippines to launch the Land Cruiser 300 Hybrid in our market, especially with their continuous push for electrification through their hybrid lineup which is one of the widest for any brand in our market right now. That’s in addition to our market being one of the largest globally for the large SUV.

Would you choose the Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Hybrid over its more traditional twin-turbo diesel V6 trim?
