It looks like the Hyundai Accent will be making a PH comeback

When Hyundai Motor Philippines (HMPH) took over the Korean automaker’s local operations, it revamped the lineup with new-generation models and new nameplates. If there was something missing though, it has to be the Accent.

The Hyundai Accent has always been part of the brand’s local lineup, competing in the highly contested subcompact sedan segment with the likes of the market’s best-selling Toyota Vios, and the Honda City and Nissan Almera. Unfortunately, it has gone MIA but it looks like it’s all set for a comeback just like its larger Elantra sibling.

If documents from the Land Transportation Office (LTO) are anything to come by, we’re set to once again receive this subcompact sedan nameplate in the Philippines.

Based on the LTO document, the local spec Hyundai Accent will be powered by a 1.5-liter inline four-cylinder gasoline engine that has a top speed of 190kph

Power figures are not mentioned but with a displacement of 1,497cc, this means that this is the naturally aspirated version used by the Creta B-SUV and Stargazer MPV, producing 115 horsepower and 144 Nm, mated to a six-speed manual transmission or CVT.

Other specifications mentioned in the document are its dimensions which measure 4,535mm long, 1,475mm wide, and 1,765mm tall. Ground clearance is 165mm and the vehicle weighs 1,620kg. It will also be riding on 16-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 205/55 tires, at least on the Premium variant.

Design-wise, expect to see more futuristic looks than what other markets get. The front fascia is dominated by the Horizon light bar, with headlights positioned and integrated into the lower grille. The taillights have an H-shaped signature and are reminiscent of those from the Elantra.

The interior is typical modern Hyundai with a sleek design and single panel that houses two displays for the driver’s instrument cluster and touchscreen infotainment system.

We really don’t know what HMPH’s plans are for the Accent’s comeback in our market. Given that it has already received approval from the country’s motor vehicle authority, we think we’ll have to wait too long.
