The Hyundai Kona is back in PH as a hybrid, pricing starts at Php 1.528M

On top of refreshing its lineup, it looks like Hyundai Motor Philippines (HMPH) is working to bring back to our market previously discontinued nameplates starting with the Elantra which made its comeback a few months ago. Now, it’s time for the once popular Kona subcompact crossover making its official return.
Once one of the Korean automaker’s more popular offerings in our market, the Kona nameplate has been absent for a couple of years. Now that it’s back, it’ll be able to compete once again with the likes of the Honda HR-V and Toyota Corolla Cross, and fills in a gap in between the recently refreshed Creta and the larger Tucson.

The second generation Hyundai Kona for our market is available in two variants: the 1.6 GLS HEV priced at Php 1,528,000, and the 1.6 Premium HEV priced at Php 1,688,000.

Larger than the previous generation, the new Kona wears a more futuristic and streamlined appearance, mixed with rugged cues in the form of large amounts of black plastic cladding. The interior also follows a similar theme as the brand’s latest products with mostly horizontal lines.

Standard equipment on GLS are 17-inch alloy wheels, LED exterior lighting, a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a six-speaker audio system.
The Premium variant adds a sunroof, larger 18-inch alloy wheels, rain-sensing wipers, 64-color mood lighting, and Hyundai’s Smartsense suite of advanced driver-assist systems.

Five colors are available for the Hyundai Kona: Neoteric Yellow, Atlas White, Abyss Black Pearl, Cyber Gray, and Meta Blue Pearl.

This new generation also electrifies the Hyundai Kona with a 1.6-liter Smartstream G engine paired with an electric motor and 1.32kWh lithium-ion battery. Shared with the Elantra HEV, it produces a combined 141 horsepower and 265Nm of torque, mated to a six-speed dual-clutch transmission.

With news of soaring gas prices, more and more automakers are jumping on the electrified bandwagon, and with more affordable offerings like the Kona HEV, it seems like the time for electrification truly is now.
