Is Chery Auto PH launching the all-new Tiggo 7 Pro soon?
Is Chery Auto Philippines introducing another crossover soon?
If we base our assumptions on an interview conducted by Chery Global’s Executive Vice President for R&D Ray Bierzynski with Chery International’s Country Manager for the Philippines, Rocky Zhang during the 2020 Beijing Auto Show, it looks like they will.
Chery Auto Philippines currently markets four crossover models and one sedan. The crossovers, also known as the Tiggo lineup, consist of the entry-level subcompact Tiggo 2, slight-larger Tiggo 5X, compact Tiggo 7, and flagship mid-size Tiggo 8. As to what model could be launched, it might be the all-new Chery Tiggo 7 Pro.
During the interview, Mr. Zhang mentioned that Chery will continue to offer the latest models in the country to keep it competitive. While such a statement is expected from any car brand, this one was a bit more specific as the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro was used as an example.
The Chery Tiggo 7 Pro is the latest version and second generation of the Tiggo 7 compact crossover. It carries the brand’s new design language which gives it a sleeker and more aggressive appearance. No details were given but if it were to be launched here, it would most probably be powered by Chery’s 1.5-liter T-GDI turbocharged petrol engine like on the current Tiggo 7. It will make more power and torque at 156 hp and 230 Nm, now paired to a CVT with 9 simulated gears. It could also get a 1.6-liter turbo but that would raise the price as it will no longer benefit from the ASEAN-China Free Trade Agreement. The slightly larger powertrain produces a very healthy 197 hp and 290 Nm of torque, paired to a 7-speed wet-type dual-clutch transmission.
For now, the second generation Chery Tiggo 7 Pro is only available in China. If the hint at its future launch locally is true, this would definitely stir-up more the existing line of Chinese-made crossovers available in the Philippine market today.
