Is this the next-gen Ford Territory?

The Ford Territory is a common sight on Philippine roads wherever you go having sold over 10,000 units ever since it was launched locally in August 2020. Now it seems that one of our ASEAN neighbors, Cambodia, where the current generation Territory is also available, will be getting a new generation.

Say hello to the second generation Ford Territory, based on the Chinese-market Ford Equator Sport which was unveiled during the Guangzhou Auto Show in November last year. Like the Territory we currently have available in the Philippines, it is also produced by Ford’s joint-venture with Jiangling Motor Corporation (JMC).

Looking at the exterior, this new Ford Territory looks a lot like the larger mid-size Ford Equator. It gets a very aggressive front fascia with split-type LED headlights and a large front grille. The side profile is a lot more muscular and it rides on larger 20-inch alloy wheels. The rear on the other hand is also very similar to the Equator with LED headlights and the Territory name spelled-out.

Inside, the new Territory remains a 5-seater. The overall look is a lot more premium than the current generation with more upmarket materials and a dual-screen layout. The interior color is a mix of blue and black matched with faux wood trimmings. Other features include an electronic gear selector knob, electronic parking brake, a panoramic sunroof, and rear airconditioning vents.

Under the hood, the new Ford Territory is powered by a carried-over 1.5-liter Inline 4-cylinder 4G15 EcoBoost petrol engine. It produces more power at 170 horsepower and more torque at 260 Nm. The continuously variable transmission of the current generation has been replaced with a 6-speed automatic transmission.

As for safety, we don’t have any idea what the new Ford Territory will get but it shouldn’t be a surprise if they carry-over the current model’s advanced driver-assist system composed of Pre-Collision Assist with Autonomous Emergency Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure Warning, Enhanced Active Park Assist System, and Blind Spot Information System.

What do you think of the new Ford Territory for the Cambodian market? Do you think Ford Philippines should introduce this here?
