IT’S HERE: Isuzu PH Launches All-New 2021 D-MAX, Pricing Starts at PHP 857K (w/ spec sheet)

The long wait is over as Isuzu Philippines is starting the month right by introducing what could be its most awaited model over the past year. The company has just finally launched the all-new third generation of its D-MAX pick-up truck.

The Philippines is the third market in our part of the world after Thailand (where it debuted in October 2019) and Australia to receive the all-new D-MAX. It is Isuzu’s entry into the crowded pick-up truck segment which is one of the most popular types of vehicle in the country.

Everything You Need to Know

First, the all-new Isuzu D-MAX is available with a total of nine (9) variants. Ranging from the base Single Cab 4×2 M/T all the way to the top-spec LS-E 4×4 A/T.

For the exterior, the 2021 D-MAX gets more of an evolutionary rather than a revolutionary redesign. It does however get a more rugged and sleeker appearance compared to the outgoing model.

Starting with the base Single Cab 4×2 M/T, this variant gets a multi-reflector halogen headlights, black plastic front grille and bumpers, 15-inch steel wheels, and 195 mm of ground clearance. The LT 4×2 M/T is essentially the same but adds a two-step rear bumper. Moving up to the LT 4×4 M/T gives you larger 17-inch steel wheels and 235 mm of ground clearance. Next, the LS variant adds halogen daytime running lights, 17-inch alloy wheels, a medium-gray colored front grille, body-colored bumpers, and power-adjustable side mirrors.

Moving further up to the LS-A variant gets a gunmetal look front grille. The fenders and door handles get a dark gray finish. This variant also adds 18-inch dark gray alloy wheels with all-terrain tires, power folding side mirrors, roof rails, and LED taillights. The LS 4×4 M/T variant gives you Bi-LED headlights with integrated LED daytime running lights, LED fog lights, 18-inch silver alloy wheels, chrome grille and door handles, and a rear fog light. Finally, the top-spec LS-E 4×4 gets pretty much the same equipment as the LS 4×4 but with the same 18-inch dark gray alloy wheels, gunmetal front grille, and dark gray door handles from the LS-A 4×2.

Inside is where the all-new D-MAX gets a revolutionary redesign. It is noticeably a lot more upmarket especially on the top-spec LS-E 4×4. The base Single Cab 4×2 M/T variant gets a single DIN head unit with a 2-speaker audio system, manual climate control, cloth seats, and a polyurethane steering wheel. The LS variants upgrade the seats to black fabric material and also add a 10.1 inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. The audio system is also upgraded to 6 speakers.

Moving up to the LS 4×4 M/T adds a leather steering wheel and push button start. Finally, the LS-E 4×4 gives you brown leather seats and accents on the dashboard, an 8-speaker audio system, auto-dimming rear view mirror, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a power-operated driver seat.

Under the hood of the all-new D-MAX are two engine options similar to those on the outgoing model. Depending on the variant, the first option is Isuzu’s 3.0-liter 4JJ3-TCX Blue Power turbodiesel powertrain. This produces 190 PS and 450 Nm of torque. The second option is the newer 1.9-liter RZ4E turbodiesel which produces 148 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque. Both are paired to either 6-speed automatic or manual transmissions depending on the variant you choose.

In terms of safety, the all-new D-MAX is fully equipped, at least on the top-spec LS-E 4×4. It has several active driver-assist features (ADAS). These are Forward Collision Warning, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Turn Assist, Pedal Mis-application Mitigation, Adaptive Cruise Control, Manual Speed Limiter, Automatic High Beams, and Lane Departure Warning. Blind-spot Monitoring and Rear Cross Traffic Alert is available starting from the LS 4×2 M/T variant.

Other standard safety features are Dual Front Airbags (7 Airbags for LS-E 4×4); Anti-Lock Braking System, Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, Brake Assist (except Single Cab M/T); Stability Control, Traction Control, Hill-Start Assist, and Hill-Descent Control (except LT and Single Cab).
