Isuzu sold more D-MAX units than Toyota with the Hilux in Thailand
The Toyota Hilux has always been one of the best selling models not only in the Philippines, not only in South East Asia, but all around the world. This is the same case in neighboring Thailand that shares similar market choices as the local market.
The Isuzu D-MAX is also one popular truck and last year received an all-new generation which became Thailand’s best selling model. Recently, the model has continued to outsell the Toyota Hilux in the Land of Smiles selling nearly twice as many units in February this year based on a report by WapCar Malaysia.
In the said report, it was revealed that Thai customers purchased a total of 52,182 units of pick-up trucks in the first two months of 2021. Capturing 50.3% of sales was the Isuzu D-MAX which sold a total of 26,313 units, nearly 10,000 units more than the Toyota Hilux. For February alone, 13,549 units of the D-MAX were sold which is nearly twice as much as Hilux sales which is at 7,842 units.
Locally, the Isuzu D-MAX was launched in February this year with prices starting at Php 857,000 for the barebones Single Cab variant and topping-out at Php 1,825,000 for the top-spec LS-E 4×4 which gets all the goodies. The D-MAX can be had with either a 1.9L RZ4E turbodiesel powertrain or 3.0L 4JJ3-TCX turbodiesel, depending on the variant as in other markets.
Can Isuzu Philippines replicate the success of the D-MAX in our fellow ASEAN neighbor or will the Toyota Hilux remain the country’s best-selling pick-up truck despite its more feature-packed competition?
