It looks like Toyota Motor PH might electrify the entire Corolla Altis lineup soon

If there’s one thing that we’ve been saying over and over again, it’s that automakers shouldn’t limit their hybrid models to the top-of-the-line models to make the technology more accessible to the rest of the market.
Hyundai has done this with its Elantra HEV, while Japanese brands like Honda and Toyota have limited these to their more expensive models. In the case of Toyota Motor Philippines, they deviated from this with the updated Corolla Cross that came out in 2024, where the entire lineup was offered with a standard hybrid drivetrain.

Fast forward two years, and the most popular variant of the new Corolla Cross is the base G HEV, and it seems that the automaker wants to repeat that again this time with its sedan equivalent.
As spotted on the Department of Energy’s List of Recognized Hybrid Vehicles, we see two new listings for the Corolla Altis 1.8 E HEV CVT and the Corolla Altis 1.8 G HEV CVT. This falls in line with the current lineup being offered, with the sole hybrid variant being the 1.8 GR-S HEV CVT that retails for Php 1,761,000.

The listing states that the car will utilize the same gasoline-and-electric motor combo found in the GR-S hybrid—so a 1.8-liter Atkinson cycle gasoline engine (2ZR-FXE) and an electric motor plus a 0.83kWh lithium-ion battery, allowing for a combined system output of 98 horsepower and 142Nm of torque.
No other specifications have obviously been released, but you can expect these two to forego luxury features to allow TMP to sell them at more affordable prices. Especially with today’s crossover-biased market, we won’t expect this to be a smash hit. But rather, this is a move that will allow more consumers to have a choice for hybrid electric vehicles, especially with more form factors— like the sedan.
