JMC PH is now electrified with the launches of JMEV EV2 and EV3

JMC Philippines, under the distributorship of Astara Philippines, is going for a little change of pace. The Chinese automaker which is known for its pickups and commercial vehicles has launched a pair of small electric hatchbacks, three months after first announcing their arrival.

Meet the EV2 and EV3 (not to be confused with a Korean crossover), which are built by JMC’s EV focused subsidiary. Now, what exactly can you get from these two products?

First, the JMEV EV2 is priced at Php 668,000. It’s very compact, measuring 3,500mm long, 1,646mm wide, and 1,460mm tall, while riding on a 2,340mm wheelbase. Cargo capacity is 105L and ground clearance is 110mm.

Accommodating a total of four occupants, it features halogen headlights, PVC leather seats, a nine-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and a two-speaker audio system. JMC is also proud to say that it comes with 14 storage compartments. Three colors are available: Aurora White, Future Cyan, and Dynamic Green.

Moving it is a single electric motor that produces a modest 35 horsepower and 84 Nm of torque, with a top speed of 105kph. It’s paired to a 15.86kWh battery allowing for a 201km driving range on a single charge. Replenishing the battery would take at least eight hours through 2kW GBT charging.

Meanwhile, the larger JMEV EV3 is priced at Php 788,000. It measures 3,720mm long, 1,640mm wide, and 1,485mm tall. It can accommodate five occupants and has a cargo capacity of 177L thanks to its larger dimensions.

Features for this one include LED headlights, power-adjust side mirrors, a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and automatic climate control. Four exterior colors are available: Aurora White, Dynamic Green, Cherry Blossom Pink, and Sky Blue.

Also seemingly worth mentioning is that it’s equipped with dual front airbags and anti-lock brakes.

Its electric motor produces a more respectable 68 horsepower and 125 Nm of torque, capable of a 115kph top speed. Paired with a 31.15kWh battery, one full charge will let it drive up to 330km.

Unlike the EV2, replenishing the battery will be easier thanks to Type 2 and CCS2 charging. With the former, charging will take at least eight hours, and at least 30 minutes with the latter.

With the rise of small electric vehicles from China, we’re not surprised that JMC Philippines wants to try and get some market share. Do these two models sound compelling to you?
