Maxus PH launches value-packed 8-seater G50 MPV (w/ spec sheet)

This should stir up the MPV segment.

New car launches these days are always held online to avoid the spread of COVID-19. Maxus Philippines has just held their first online launch event. Meet the all-new 2021 Maxus G50. AC Motors, the brand’s official distributor has also brought in three variants to choose from.

The G50 is the brand’s fourth model in its local lineup after the G10 MPV/minivan and V80 van, as well as the T60 pick-up truck. It is also their first model to be powered by a gasoline engine, more on that later.

Automobile Central Enterprise, Inc. (ACEI) President Felipe Estrella described how the G50 further enhances the role which Maxus’ line-up of LCVs plays in Filipinos’ lives. “We have recognized the importance of families since we launched our flagship model, the G10 multi-purpose vehicle in 2019. Our other models, the V80 van as well as our pick-up, the T60, match the continuously evolving needs and wants of Filipino families. We likewise appreciate the hard work of micro, small and medium enterprise owners. The reliability, efficiency, power and versatility of our products make them ideal for businesses and even essential, life-saving purposes. The G50 is our latest vehicle that caters, again, to the Filipino family.”

Expounding on family, Maxus Philippines General Manager Reginald See said, “The G50 is an MPV that can take in even your extended family members since it’s an 8-seater. It’s ideal for long road trips and family picnics. The great thing about this is that it has the price of a sub-compact MPV.”

As mentioned earlier, the Maxus G50 is available in three different variants: 1.5 Pro, 1.5 Elite, and 1.5 Premium. All G50s can fit up to 8 passengers, 2 in front, and 3 each on the second and third rows respectively. It is also available in 7 different color choices which are Polar Ash, Deep Golden, Warm White, Warm Argent, Metal Black, and the very unique and quirky looking Water Blue and Roland Purple.

Upon first look, the 2021 Maxus G50 is definitely quite stylish. It is styled more like a minivan than an MPV but that should translate to more interior room. The front fascia is dominated by a huge grille with the Maxus nameplate nicely spelled out. Standard equipment include halogen headlights with daytime running lights, 17-inch dark alloy wheels, and LED taillights. Upgrading to the 1.5 Premium variant gives you full LED headlights with daytime running lights and power-folding side mirrors.

Inside, the G50 gets a very premium interior. In the center above the dashboard for the 1.5 Premium is a large 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, the mid and base variant get an 8-inch touchscreen. Other standard features are automatic climate control (except 1.5 Pro), a digital multi-information display in the driver’s instrument cluster, power adjustable front seats. In addition, the front seats have trays on their backs for 2nd row passengers to use for activities like eating or writing. Leather seats are standard on the 1.5 Elite and 1.5 Premium variants. Also, getting the 1.5 Premium variant gives you a panoramic sunroof, and a wireless phone charger.

The G50 is also very convenient as it comes equipped with smart keyless entry with push button start, electronic parking brake with auto hold, and for 1.5 Premium a power rear liftgate and wireless charging pad.

Under the hood, as mentioned earlier, the Maxus G50 is the first model in the company’s local lineup to be powered by a gasoline engine. To be exact, it has a 1.5-liter turbo which produces 167 hp and 250 Nm of torque. It is paired to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. All three variants are equipped with this powertrain. For those looking for a diesel engine, Maxus says that the performance and efficiency of the 1.5 L powertrain matches those of a diesel so no need to worry.

The Maxus G50 does not scrimp on safety as it comes standard with dual front airbags, anti-lock braking system with electronic brake force distribution, stability control, reverse camera, and tire pressure monitoring system. Upgrading to the Premium variant gives you front side airbags, front and rear parking sensors (also available on Elite), and a 360-degree around-view monitor (also available on Elite).

With its wide range of features, you probably expect the 2021 Maxus G50 to be priced a bit higher. That is not the case however as it is priced as follows:

  • G50 1.5 DCT Pro: Php 1,088,000
  • G50 1.5 DCT Elite: Php 1,168,000
  • G50 1.5 DCT Premium: Php 1,288,000

It is now available in Maxus Philippines’ eight (8) dealerships nationwide. In addition, everyone who will purchase a Maxus G50 will benefit from a 5-year 100,000 kilometer service warranty, whichever comes first. Maxus Philippines also offers 24/7 emergency roadside assistance and on-site servicing for corporate fleet accounts.
