Meet the 2021 MG 6

2 min read
Expect it to be officially revealed within a few weeks.

A little more than a month ago we reported that the images of a facelifted MG 6 surfaced online. Well now we get to see more images which are from the Chinese website Sina Motors. We can also expect MG to introduce the new MG 6 in the weeks to come.

The 2021 MG 6 is apparently the third generation of the company’s compact sedan. It is however still heavily based on the current second generation and actually still retains some details.

The new “third generation” MG 6 receives a completely new front fascia. In the center is the company’s new “digital flaming” grille. The headlights and bumper are also completely new for this model. Not much is changed on the side profile but it does get new 18-inch alloy wheels. At the back, there is an updated set of LED taillights, a new trunklid spoiler, and large exposed oval exhaust pipes. The overall design is sharper and a lot sportier than the current one. It also shows what the company calls its “New Surging Wave” design language.

Inside, the dashboard is still pretty much the same as the current one. There is a new 10.1-inch touchscreen floating infotainment display. It also appears to have a new interface as the graphics are not at all similar to that on the current one. We see a redesigned center console with a new material finish and an electronic gear shifter which replaces the traditional lever. The flat-bottom steering wheel and climate vents look pretty much carried-over from the current model.

In addition to those upgrades, the top-spec variant dubbed the Trophy should get a pair of front sport bucket seats. There are also yellow accents on the seats and center console to break the monotony of the cabin and add to the sportier vibe.

As mentioned in our previous report, engine specs are also updated. While it still gets a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine, there is 12 more horsepower bringing the total to 178 hp. It is expected to be paired still to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. MG claims that this can reach a top speed of 210 kph and has an average fuel consumption of just around 16 km/l.
