The MG 5 beats the best-selling Toyota Vios in sales, but how?

The Toyota Vios may be the best-selling vehicle in the country, and thus the best-selling subcompact sedan as well, but the MG 5 has apparently beat it in one category.
How, you may ask? According to numbers, the MG 5 is the best-selling model in the 1.5-liter subcompact sedan segment with a total of 3,415 units sold. This is a staggering 3,276 units more than the Toyota Vios. How again, you ask?
Well, with the Toyota Vios selling 43,629 units in 2024, a large majority of those are made-up of variants with a smaller 1.3-liter engine. Only 139 units sold are equipped with a 1.5-liter engine which was also discontinued last year.
As for the rest of the MG brand, MG Motor Philippines was able to achieve a record-breaking amount of sales for the brand in the country at 9,016 units sold. This places it at ninth against other automotive brands, just behind Hyundai which is at eighth, and ahead of Geely at tenth.

The Sino-British automaker says that this is led by the ZS subcompact crossover, and the G50 Plus compact MPV which was only launched last year. The growth has also been attributed to the company’s local dealership network which has reached a total of 46.
For 2025, MG Motor Philippines that it is set to expand further its product lineup with new model introductions, and its dealership network, as well as the introduction of new and enhanced customer aftersales programs.
