MG ZS beats Geely Coolray as top-selling crossover in PH for June 2020
Earlier this month we reported that Geely sold the most number of units, 154 to be exact, in the subcompact crossover category. This meant that the Geely Coolray was the best-selling model in the segment. The thing is, it looks like they’re now at number two.
The earlier tally of units sold in the segment did not include MG Philippines as they are a member of neither the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines (CAMPI) nor the Association Vehicle Importers and Distributors (AVID). These two organizations compile the sales figures from their different member brands every month.
According to a report from VISOR, MG Philippines sent out press releases (which unfortunately we did not receive as we do not have any contacts with the brand yet) stating that the company sold a total of 1,081 units from January to June 2020. MG also said that 56% of those units are of the popular ZS crossover which is a direct competitor to the Geely Coolray.
Also according to their report, they contacted MG Philippines PR manager Enrico Subido and asked him the exact number of ZS units sold. The official number of MG ZS units sold in the country for June 2020 is 208. This means that the MG ZS takes the crown from the Geely Coolray as the best-selling vehicle in the segment.
Do you think that the Geely Coolray still has the chance to win over and be the king of the segment? With the crossover’s popularity seemingly still growing and it slowly having a cult following of its own, it’s likely. It also looks like the Geely and MG rivalry is set to become even tougher.
