MG ZS Turbo to be launched in PH

The MG ZS is easily known as one of the most popular subcompact crossover SUVs available in the local market today. It even topped sales charts for some time but facing stiffer competition, MG Philippines needs to play catch-up.

That’s exactly what they’re doing as on October 5, 2021, we’ll be seeing a refreshed version of the ZS, just a little less than three years since the brand was relaunched in the country under The Covenant Car Company Inc. (TCCCI). The ZS was even among the models that came with the relaunch.

Before we talk about features expected from the refreshed ZS, let’s talk about the biggest news that comes with the upcoming launch. The 2022 MG ZS will have a turbocharged variant. Known as the ZST, it is powered by a 1.3L inline-4 cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that produces 162 hp and 230 Nm of torque, paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission. This is likely aimed at buyers looking at the ZS’s main competitors such as the Geely Coolray which is powered by a turbocharged engine.

So what else is new? The refreshed MG ZS gets an updated exterior and interior. Nothing major but it’s easy to see the differences with the new front grille and bumper, headlights, and overall more rounded appearance. It also gets a new set of alloy wheels and redesigned taillight clusters.

It’s also pretty much the same on the inside but the ZS will now get a larger floating infotainment system and what looks like better materials if we were to base on the foreign market version.

It is not known whether the 1.5L naturally-aspirated engine from the current ZS will still be available. Pricing is also unknown at this point, but knowing TCCCI, it is very much likely, or even definitely will end in 888.

Again, the updated MG ZS will be launched locally on October 5, 2021. That’s less than a week from now and we’ll surely update you with more details at launch.
