MIAS 2022: Chery Auto PH unveils Pro versions of Tiggo 8 and Tiggo 5X

After weeks of teasing, Chery Auto Philippines has finally unveiled its newest flagship crossover SUV in the form of the Tiggo 8 Pro, alongside its subcompact crossover offering, the Tiggo 5X Pro, at the 2022 Manila International Auto Show (MIAS).

The two models are the latest additions in the brand’s Pro lineup which currently consists of the Tiggo 2 Pro entry-level subcompact crossover, as well as the Tiggo 7 Pro compact crossover.

Tiggo 5X Pro

Chery Auto Philippines’ first unveiling in this year’s edition of the MIAS is the Chery Tiggo 5X Pro. Essentially the updated version of the brand’s larger subcompact crossover offering, the Tiggo 5X Pro gets a couple of changes over the regular Tiggo 5X.

For starters, the Chery Tiggo 5X Pro gets the brand’s signature Diamond Galaxy front grille and new alloy wheels. Inside, the Chery Tiggo 5X Pro gets a completely new interior with a dashboard that seems to be a more compact version of those found in the Tiggo 7 Pro and Tiggo 8. The new front seats have are also directly from those larger models.

It is good to note that the Chery Tiggo 5X Pro is only being previewed at the auto show so final specifications may still change once it is officially launched locally.

Tiggo 8 Pro

The star of the show at the Chery Auto Philippines booth is the all-new Tiggo 8 Pro. Teased very frequently on the company’s official social media pages, the brand’s new flagship offering comes in two variants with a third coming later this year.

In terms of styling, the Tiggo 8 Pro is much more premium and modern than the standard Tiggo 8. It wears the brand’s latest design language with the Diamond Galaxy signature grille design, new LED headlights, and more aggressive front bumper design. The side profile is the same as on the Tiggo 8 but with new 18-inch alloy wheels. Meanwhile, the rear is also completely different from the standard Tiggo 8 with its new and more upmarket looking LED taillights, as well as the Chery name spelled out on the tailgate.

Inside, the Tiggo 8 Pro gets two different dashboard designs. The first is for the non-hybrid models which is an updated version of the standard Tiggo 8’s dashboard. The PHEV version gets a more modern and premium design with large dual screens made up of a fully-digital instrument cluster and infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also comes with a more luxurious seat design with a diamond stitch pattern, as well as a panoramic sunroof, touch panel for the automatic climate control, and electronic gear selector.

Under the hood, the Tiggo 8 Pro was shown with two engine options. First is a 1.6-liter turbocharged petrol engine that produces 183 horsepower and 275 Nm of torque, paired to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.

The main attraction though is the top-spec variant’s hybrid powertrain which consists of a 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine and two electric motors, one at the front and one at the rear. These produce a whopping combined output of 326 hp and 510 Nm of torque. A ternary lithium battery with an output of 19.27 kWh also enables the Tiggo 8 Pro PHEV to have an all electric range of 100 kilometers. Not only that, with this powertrain option, the Tiggo 8 Pro PHEV is capable of driving from 0 to 100 kph in just 4.9 seconds.

The Chery Tiggo 8 Pro’s introduction also coincides with the brand’s introduction of driver-assistance tech into its lineup starting with the said model. The Chery Tiggo 8 Pro 1.6T is equipped with adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, lane keeping assist, traffic jam assist, autonomous emergency braking, blindspot detection, lane departure warning, and intelligent high beam control.

Of course, those who will purchase a Chery Tiggo 8 Pro will be able to take advantage of Chery’s Premium Preserv. This means it will have a 10-year or 1-million kilometer engine warranty, 5-year or 150,000 kilometer vehicle warranty, 3-year free preventive maintenance service (PMS), and 3-year free roadside assistance.

Once available, the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro 1.6 DCT will be priced at Php 1,645,000 while the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro 1.5 PHEV will be priced at Php 2,400,000.
