MIAS 2022: Foton PH brings in all-new Thunder

Foton Philippines has its eyes set on its more popular competitors as it introduced the all-new generation of its pick-up truck entry, the Thunder, at the now concluded 2022 Manila International Auto Show (MIAS).

Looking at the exterior, the all-new Foton Thunder is definitely a lot bolder and more aggressive compared to the model it replaces. It gets a new F-O-T-O-N front grille, reminiscent of the one used by Ford in its Raptor and FX4 Max models. The headlights meanwhile give it a more modern appearance. It rides on 18-inch alloy wheels and gets LED taillights at the back.

Inside, the Thunder is now more car-like. In fact, it does not look like what you’d usually find in a pick-up truck. It gets a new floating-style 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system and automatic climate control. The seats are also wrapped in leather with a diamond stitch pattern.

Under the hood, you will find that a new 2.0-liter Aucan Inline 4-cylinder turbodiesel engine powers the all-new Thunder. It produces a healthy 161 horsepower and 390 Nm of torque, paired to a 6-speed manual transmission. This replaces the outgoing model’s well-known 2.8L Cummins turbodiesel.

As of now, only a manual transmission is available but an automatic transmission version with both 4×2 and 4×4 drivetrains will be available in the future.

Pricing for the 2022 Foton Thunder has not yet been finalized as of today. It is expected to be priced around Php 1,150,000 once it becomes available in the market.
