Mitsubishi Motors Unveils All-New Outlander

Mitsubishi Motors today revealed the all-new generation of its now flagship SUV, the Outlander, featuring a new design direction.

The global unveiling of the all-new Outlander was held via Amazon Live, making it the first automobile to be launched on the platform.

“Based on the product concept ‘I-Fu-Do-Do’, which means authentic and majestic in Japanese, the all-new Outlander has been crafted into a reliable SUV with significantly upgraded styling, road performance, and a high-quality feel to satisfy the needs of customers who want to expand their horizons and take on challenges of every kind,” said Takao Kato, chief executive officer of MMC. “With the launch of the all-new Outlander, we will first expand our sales in the North American market and then aim for global growth.”

The Mitsubishi Outlander is all-new from the ground up for its fourth generation and its overall design is heavily based on the Engelberg Tourer. The front fascia features an evolved version of Mitsubishi’s signature Dynamic Shield Design language. This brings it closer to the rest of the company’s latest models such as the Montero Sport, Strada and Xpander, as well as the Eclipse Cross.

Inside, it’s all-new as well and a complete revolution in terms of design compared to the outgoing model. In the center is a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system which looks similar to the one found in the 2021 Nissan Rogue/X-Trail which it shares some parts with. As expected, it features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. Seating capacity is at 7 passengers including the driver.

Safety features include Mitsubishi’s latest suite of driver-assist aids such as adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist. In total, the Outlander is equipped with 11 airbags.

Under the hood, the all-new Mitsubishi Outlander is powered by a single powertrain option, at least for now, a 2.5-liter naturally-aspirated engine. No output figures have been announced yet. This is paired to a continuously variable transmission with power sent to the front wheels for 2WD variants and to all four wheels for those AWD models with Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC).

Will we see this in the Philippines? We can’t tell for now but it could still happen considering Mitsubishi Motors Philippines reintroduced last year the Outlander nameplate in the country with the PHEV version. Also consider the fact that MMPC does not currently have any crossovers in its current lineup.
